The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. was organized in October of 2004 exclusively for charitable, religious, and educational purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
Furthermore, The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. was organized to serve as a complete resource for predominately African-American churches by providing tangible answers and solutions to the African-American church population. Services and programs will be a combination of innovative web sites, educational and inspirational conferences and symposiums, and structured programs designed to focus on the constituents of the African-American church and their needs, such as Health Awareness, Education, and Technological Support.
The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. is unique in that it is the only known organization of its kind with focus primarily on predominately African-American churches at a nationwide level. The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. realizes the tremendous positive impact that the African-American church, if equipped adequately, can have on its members and the African-American community overall. The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. has a desire to see the African-American church continuously empowered in tangible ways so that it may benefit those which it services in areas with may be underserved, such as Health Awareness, Education, and Technological Support. The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. also recognizes that Pastors are a prominent figure within the African-American church community. The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. will work directly with the Pastors to disseminate information on and encourage participation in structured programs focusing on these areas.
Structured programs will be designed and developed by The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. and will be designed to be held within individual churches, conducted initially by volunteers with experience in the area of focus. Offering structured programs in this manner will increase exposure and with Pastoral influence will maximize the number of actual participants.
The primary focus of The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. initially will be on its Education component, establishing The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. Scholarship Fund. Distributions from the Scholarship Fund will be made to colleges and universities identified by churches in the organization’s database. The database for The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. currently consists of over 8,000 predominately African-American churches as identified on its service web site, The Black Church Page, which serves as a gateway between The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. and African-American churches and their members. Churches will apply for scholarship funds, selected churches will select the individuals within their congregation who will have funds distributed on their behalf to the college or university that they will be attending. The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. will have no role in the selection process of individuals. By working directly with the churches in this manner, more individuals will be made aware of the existence of the Scholarship Fund. These distributions will make funds available to aid in and advance the ability to obtain a quality education for members of predominately African-American churches.
Continuing with focus on the Educational component, The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. plans to design structured programs to prepare students for college. These may include College Preparatory workshops, workshops focusing on taking standardized tests, and workshops focused on assisting parents and students with completing admission and financial aid applications.
As the focus of The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. expands to other areas, attempts will be made to collaborate with other exempt organizations whose primary focus in on the particular area. This will be especially true in the area of Health Awareness. Within the African-American community, the church has a tremendous amount of influence. For example, persons who may not otherwise get preventive screening for medical conditions that the African-American community is already predisposed to, would be more willing to get these screenings if offered at their local church and with Pastoral influence. The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. plans to collaborate with other exempt organizations to design programs that offer these types screenings free of charge in conjunction with seminars focusing on an overall healthy lifestyle.
Structured programs designed by The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. will be designed with the primary target audience as members of the church where programs will be held. The programs will also be opened to the general public. The goal of The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. will always be for designed programs to be offered free of charge, with associated costs being covered primarily by funders/grants and individual donors. Any program offered with participant fees will only be provided if the program can be successfully offered by only charging nominal fees to the participants.
As The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. expands it focus into the area of Technological Support, focus will be on educating churches in the latest technology to better equip them to serve both their daily needs as an organization as well as to better serve their congregation.
By working with and within the African-American church to provide the services, programs, and solutions that have been described, The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. is clearly focused on charitable, religious, and educational purposes. By focusing on certain areas, such as Health Awareness, Education, and Technological Support, The Black Church Resource Group, Inc. will aid in bridging the socioeconomic gap that exists in these areas between the African-American population and other races.
